Short description of Mons, Bibliothèque Universitaire, 847

Old reference numbers

Place of production, date

Produced by a scribe from the Benedictine monastery of St.-Ghislain under Abbot Hildebrand (1024-ca. 1050). It seems likely that the codex was written in (or very shortly after) 1024. The codex was part of a large-scale project to produce more hagiographical manuscripts for the library of St.-Ghislain, and involved the work of multiple scribes who traveled to various Benedictine monasteries for their exemplars. This scribe worked in the libraries of Marchiennes and St.-Vaast.

Catalogue

In the eleventh-century catalogue from St.-Ghislain, the manuscript was labeled LLL.
